Behind the Scenes: My Creative Process for Printable Board Games, Activities & Decor

Creating printable products is a journey of imagination, planning, and a whole lot of love. Whimsical board games, hands-on activities, or festive decor are all my jams. Each piece starts with a spark and ends with a HELL YA! Here’s how I bring my ideas to life from concept to customer.

Step 1: Brainstorming Marathon

Every project begins with a deep dive into brainstorming. I carve out several uninterrupted hours to let ideas flow freely. This is where I explore themes, mechanics, aesthetics, and how the final product will engage and delight. It’s messy, exciting, and absolutely necessary.

Step 2: Outlining the Vision

Once I’ve landed on a concept, I start organizing my thoughts. I write out a rough outline—what the product is, how it works, and what components it needs. This helps me stay focused and gives me a roadmap to follow as I build.

Step 3: Digital Development

Everything happens on the computer. From researching trends and educational value to refining the structure, I use Copilot to help me stay organized. It’s like having a creative partner who keeps me on track and helps me articulate my ideas clearly.

  • Copilot helps streamline my content and ensures instructions are crystal clear.
  • I tend to jumble steps out of order, and Copilot is brilliant at untangling that.
  • It’s also my go-to for polishing the final wording and making sure everything flows.

Step 4: Artwork & Visuals

If I can create the artwork myself, I dive into that part with joy, but I am not very good at it. When I need a little extra magic, I turn to Adobe Express. It offers a rich pool of artists and styles that help me bring my vision to life while keeping everything cohesive and professional.

Step 5: Print, Cut, and WOOHOO!

Once the digital files are complete, the real-world fun begins. I print the product, cut it out, and admire the tangible result—this is what my customers will hold in their hands. It’s super duper rewarding to see it come to life.

Step 6: Promotional Prep

Next comes filming promotional materials. I capture the product in action, highlight its features, and showcase how it can be used. These visuals are key for helping customers understand the value and versatility of what I’ve created.

Step 7: Launch & Share

With everything ready, I upload the product to my webstore, theancientmillennium.com. Then it’s time to spread the word! Social media plays a huge role in connecting with my audience and sharing the excitement. I love seeing how people respond and interact with my creations.

This process is a blend of creativity, technology, and hands-on crafting—and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Whether you're a fellow creator or just curious about how printable products come to life, I hope this peek behind the curtain inspires you to explore your own creative path.
